Endless sea of stairs

The harmonious relationship between functionality and aesthetics is achieved by careful planning of the stairs at the project development stage. The variety of stair designs, forms, materials and balustrades makes the choice of stairs an exciting experience. However, in this case one should not be guided only by aesthetic considerations. In order to “enter” the staircase into the interior, it is necessary to take into account the ratio of many factors and parameters, first of all, leave a large area under it on the first floor, as well as take care of your own safety. The staircase should not only comply with the general concept of the interior, but also be as functional as possible.

The harmonious relationship between functionality and aesthetics is achieved by careful planning of the stairs at the project development stage. Architects believe that the staircase as a key point of the interior has an important constructive and stylistic value.

The geometric construction of the stairs, which is determined by its purpose, material and design, must be carried out before the start of the finishing works.

The purpose of the stairs.

 - Interfloor staircase should be above all comfortable. She is responsible for moving through the levels of the house, immediately attracting the attention of those entering the building. Often, it becomes the front door, which is installed in the center of the hall and can have a swing construction. Modern technologies of finishing the stairs make it possible to turn it into an impressive construction in the French style of the era of Louis XII, massive, rough in the style of country or modern lightweight in the style of high-tech.

The location of the stairs along the side wall, in the corner of the room or between the walls will not reduce the level of its grandness. A straight interfloor staircase occupies a fairly large floor area. If there is a need to install a compact staircase, then domestic and imported manufacturers offer models that are diverse in their geometric construction and design, ready to satisfy the architectural and aesthetic content of any room.

Mansard, attic and basement stairs are used much less frequently than the main one. They carry a functional load and do not require high decorative significance. For the attic and the attic stairs there are simplified options that provide for the possibility of folding and removing them in interfloor overlapping or inside the cabinet box (case) with built-in locking device, which does not allow opening the hatch from the roof. Some attic models are equipped with a fireproof hatch cover that can hold fire for 30 minutes. Possible insulation of parts of the box and the presence of a warmed hatch cover. There is also a dust cover, which eliminates the ingress of dust in the eyes during the opening of the hatch.

An important point to determine what area in the project can be identified for the installation of the stairs, as well as exactly where to place it, is the ability to navigate the geometric construction of the stairs (the projection of the stairs on the floor). The classification below applies mainly to interfloor interior stairs.

The geometry of the stairs.

- Marching stairs. A single-flight (straight) staircase is most convenient for moving a large number of people and carrying large-sized items; a double-flight can be a turning point with intermediate platforms or front steps. It has an L-shaped design with a rotation of 90 degrees.

The advantages of rotating stairs should include the fact that with the same height of the steps they occupy a smaller area in the room than the straight ones. The swing staircase is a double-flight ladder, in which the first march leads to the landing, from where two other marches diverge in opposite directions. This design is suitable for the main staircase, but takes up even more space.

The spiral (spiral, elliptical, circular) staircase is located at the correct radius and consists only of the drive-in steps. Sometimes it forms a square screw and is intended mainly for small spaces and confined space. Usually a spiral staircase is located in a corner, between two walls or in turrets. It is more able to save space. However, the constant turning of a step over a long distance is quickly tiring, so the stairs are not suitable for any age category. When moving the screw design fluctuates, which is also not very convenient.

However, a smooth helical twist attracts with its unpredictability and grace of form. There are many constructive variations of this type. And sometimes the spiral staircase is installed in the center of the hall as a connecting link of the entire interior.

The listed types of ladders are sold in a version ready for installation. However, each architect seeks to realize an individual order, and, following the wishes of the client, many firms retreat from exact canons and even go on an experiment. As a result, unexpectedly functional constructions come out of the hands of masters of complex staircase
